Tasting menus are dining experiences curated by chefs to introduce patrons to restaurants’ most innovative dishes. Typically, tasting menus take place in smaller, intimate settings where patrons can watch the cooking process and interact with the chefs. Seating is usually limited. These menus often feature specialty dishes or seasonal ingredients.

One tasting may consist of up to six or more savory dishes and desserts served consecutively in small portions. Since the menu is decided in advance, diners should not ask for substitutions. Some restaurants offer tasting menus only on certain dates. Others may have this option available at all times. Typically, all members of a dining party must participate in the tasting menu.
